Amo Gesù per la sua grandezza divina, per la sua potenza nel cielo e sulla terra, per i suoi meriti infiniti ma anche e soprattutto per ragioni di gratitudine. Se egli fosse stato con noi meno buono, piu severo; quanto meno avremmo peccato!... Ma il peccato, quando è seguito dal dolore profondo di averlo commesso, dal proponimento leale di non ripeterlo più, dalla sensazione viva del gran male che con esso abbiamo arrecato alla misericordia di DIO; quando, lacerate le più dure fibre del cuore, riesce a far scaturire da queste lacrime cocenti di pentimento e di amore, il peccato stesso, figliuolo mio, diventa allora un gradino che ci avvicina, che ci innalza, che più sicuramente ci conduce a lui (GF,171).
